Karl In Brisbane! Sleep and Food, Totally Overrated on Conventions

Mister "Done with filming Red" barely appeared just right in time with his flight only 60 minutes before the opening in Brisbane to attend the first of two stops on Supanova 2010. Drinking Red Bull and being adorable he couldn`t let down the fans who were waiting for him. "Jocelynip" attended his Q&A Session, wrote a review and sponsors this  to ontd_startrek. Also photos. Karl Urban was fantastic at Brisbane Supanova.
I went to the Saturday Q & A session, which was PACKED.
The room was tiny and there were chairs and standing room, I lined up sort of early so I sat about the middle.

He was a tiny bit late and drinking red bull, but as fangirls, we didn’t care!
He said he almost didn’t make it because he was filming a movie in America just before this.

Everyone asked him the usual questions:
Were you a Trek fan before you were Bones?
He said he was and that he didn’t try and copy DeForrest but tried to make it his own. So he didn’t watch too much of TOS before filming.
Was the set fun?
He said it was SO great and that everyone played pranks (he said Zach Quinto like 4 times and it was quite exciting) and he said JJ is just the most creative, amazing, genius man ever and that he would sometimes rap directions to the cast.
Favourite scene from any movie he’s been in?
The first scene of the Star Trek movie. He talked about how the audience didn’t know anything about the characters but they felt for them and that the beauty of JJ is that he can truely capture the human experience on film. He also said that there were few directors that could do that and the director of LOTR was also one, and that he was looking forward to The Hobbit
Was it hard to learn a new language or accent?
He said it just comes with the job and you just have to put your mind to it and it is easy.
What was Lord of the Rings like?
Amazing experience. He talked about his 6-or-so months of horse traning that just went out the window when he got onto the set and how it was SO cold in the mornings that he would put on thermals and then DIE when it got hotter. He also talked about how he worked with some amazing actors. He mentioned that he was really close to Viggo Mortensen and how he is just the most amazing actor and would change how he delivered his line every take to give himself and the director so much freshness and so much to choose from.

He also talked about one time filming when a bunch of the men camped out to get a shot at dawn. And how Orlando Bloom and the others got really drunk. He then stood up and re-enacted the filming - run, run, run, vomit, run, run, run, vomit.
He then said “I hope there is no children in here…”

The next question was from a kid and he was so funny. Just hiding his face and he whispered “responsible drinking”

At the very end he told a joke: An Englishman wants to become an Irishman so he goes to his doctor: “Doctor, doctor. I want to become an Irishman. I hear there`s a procedure you can do to make this happen.” And the doctor says: “Yes there is, it is safe but we have to remove ¼ of your brain.” And the Englishman says: “Yeah, I’ve read all about it. I’m okay with it, lets do the procedure.” So he goes and has the operation but when he wakes up the doctor is in the room with a mortified and most concerned look on his face. “There was a problem with the procedure” the doctor says “instead of removing ¼ of your brain, ¾ was removed. We’re really sorry.” To this the man replies:”No prob’ cobber!

And then he left and we clapped a lot.
He was so nice and fantastic.
