News and/or Speculation on the Sequel

Sequel News - Khan is not the villain

Badass Digest just released some news/speculation about the sequel, and a New York Times article on the Apple iPad hinted that there will be a female Vulcan character in the next film.

From Badass Digest -

1) Khan will not be the villain. You would think this would go without saying, but people keep speculating. In fact, my source says that the film won’t be focused on a traditional ‘villain’ type at all. Which leads us to:

2) The story will focus on a classic Trek character. And when I say classic, I mean a character who appeared in season one of the original series, when Gene Roddenberry was in charge.

"It’s definitely a character that will make fans of TOS excited. Think along the lines of Harry Mudd or Trelane or Gary Mitchell or the Talosians or the Horta. Actually it’s one of those that I named."

More on the possible characters making an appearance in the sequel here.

The other rumor going around is that a female Vulcan will feature in the sequel, although there is no indication of the age of the actress/character, just that it's a female.

From Mania.Com

In what's looking to be the latest strang example of sneaking in vague new information on J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek sequel while promoting new technology, the New York Times featured a piece on the iPad and somehow provided something for genre fans to ponder today. In the story covering the new Apple product, the story snuck in how producers and writers for Paramount Pictures' planned 2012 sequel sent photos to each other of an actress featuring those quirky Vulcan ears.

Whether that implies we could be receiving a new love interest towards Zachary Quinto's Spock in the next installment or whether will see the pointy-eared return of a certain Vulcan female from the TOS theatrical franchise, we'll leave such theories to you fans to guess upon. Here's the information from the Times piece...

The attendees all brought smartphones — gadgets far more powerful than the videophones imagined by the "Star Trek" writers 40 years ago. Bob Orci brought something the writers back then could only dream of: an iPad.

Mr. Orci, meeting with the producers J. J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk, and his fellow writer Alex Kurtzman, jump-started the discussion with an iPad slide show, showing stills from the first film, snapshots of potential locations and a photo of a suggested actress for one of the roles. On the woman's photo, he had used his iPad to paint on a Vulcan ear.

Any guesses as to who this actress might be? I personally would love to see Eva Green as a hot Vulcan girl.
