E! : Shocker! Avatar, District 9, Star Trek Make Cut for F/X Oscar
"It's shaping up to be an alien invasion at the Oscars.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, James Cameron's Na'vi-centric 3-D extravaganza Avatar, Neill Blomkamp's prawn thriller District 9 and J.J. Abrams' action-packed Spock-eriffic reboot of Star Trek lead the list of seven films short-listed for the Visual Effects Oscar nomination.
Rounding out the VFX contenders: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and 2012. (Sorry, Twi-hards, New Moon didn't even make the quarterfinals.)
On Jan. 21, members of the Academy's Visual Effects Branch will whittle the seven movies down to three for the official Oscar ballot. Nominations for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Feb. 2."
There also appears to be some talk that if they all make the list for best picture, Star Trek and District 9 could damage Avatar's chances.
The 29-year-old actor was recently spotted at L.A.’s M Café by himself, ordering a teriyaki bowl with black cod and extra brown rice. The same day, Kirsten Dunst ordered the California club sandwich, which features tempeh “bacon,” and also ordered a side of kale and spicy peanut sauce – all washed down with a green lemonade infused with kale.

Due to the epic amount of fail during the People's Choice Awards (though the resulting mini party was pretty awesome) the amazing tinuelena (seriously, bow to her) came up with the idea for the Trek Choice Awards
So, GQMFs, we give you gqmf_awards. Still in planning stages.
Ideas thrown out so far:
+ Send paper trophies to Paramount
+ Announce the winners over Livestream
+ Posting pictures of yourself bein' fancy/in costume/being GQ
+ Categories such as:
MOST EROTIC EYEBROWS
BEST USE OF LENSFLARE
BEST RANDOM BACKGROUND ALIEN
MOST RIDICULOUS MOMENT THAT LOOKED AWESOME
BEST BOWLCUT HAIR-FLOPING IN A DRAMATIC SCENE
It's so amazing, we need categories for our categories! So join now & add your ideas to the brainstorming entry/post new categories!!
Also, anyone willing to make banners/design awards will get my first born. Though that's probably more of a deterrent than anything.
I've yet to talk to tinuelena who really runs this show but I just can't stop thinking.
My ultimate idea for this thing?
When we finally get all the categories down/nominations/voting complete...who ever wanted to be a presenter could film themselves doing a category intro/announce the nominees. I have a background in film editing and would compile these, plus add in all the obligatory picutures/videoclips of the nominees. (Anyone else who does videos & would like to help with this?)
...This could be a real awards show.
TOO INSANE????? The sheer amount of categories would make this long & probably a lot of work. Probably so worth it though?
