I don't know if you guys are familiar with the NASA song contest - you probably are, but if not, check it out; the link is at the bottom of this post.
Anyway, this is something that I posted in another community, and I thought I'd try to get it out to more Trek fans.
Lately, the Big Head Todd fans have put in a huge effort to beat us Trekkies in the NASA song contest. There may or may not be cheating among some of them, but many of them have come together as a community, doing what they're referring to as "votesteady" (alluding to the song "Rocksteady"). If they continue voting like they have during the last few days while we do nothing, they will win.
For me, it's not just about winning. It's about showing that we Trekkies are a community that, when we make an effort and work together, can do anything we put our minds to. We are famous for our fan community, and I think it would be a shame if we're not able to pull together like the Big Head Todd fans have. catalenamara 's post about what Star Trek fans have accomplished together before is very inspirational.
Since the Big Head Todd fans have the whole "votesteady" thing going on, we should have something similar to keep us motivated.
What I propose is this: we write down how many times we're voting (or how long you've spent voting, if you don't want to count each of your votes), and then come back here and post about it. I don't think it should be a contest, since not everyone has the same amount of free time on their hands, and since everyone might not be as obsessive about it as me (not to mention dcclms , who has been so great at reminding us all to vote), but I imagine it might be more motivating to vote when we make it a "community" thing and encourage each other to vote when we can.
If you are doing anything that could be combined with voting (like watching TV), I hope you'll consider voting at the same time.
I've just added 150 votes, and will continue to add more after I've posted this.
