Star Trek Original Series Double Whammy!

Yesterday, December 6th, was the 20th anniversary of the release of Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country. It was the last of the movies based on the original series and the last one Roddenberry was involved in, due to his untimely death two months before the film's release. This short article reflects on STVI and how it was the last of the Trek movie franchise to be a commentary on real world issues.

Meanwhile the website Letters of Note managed to track down this fascinating correspondence between Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek producers Bob Justman and John Black, exchanged just before the show was aired. It concerned the wording for the voice-over for the opening credits and includes an early draft which bears only a passing resemblance to the words we know and love: Space, the final frontier...
